Starting Dot is a new registry managing a portfolio of community top-level domains.

Founded in October 2011 in Paris, Starting Dot is developing a portfolio of 3 new Top Level Domain names (TLDs) dedicated to major industries: .ARCHI (architecture), .BIO and .SKI. Starting Dot's strategy is to focus on TLDs dedicated to SME categories for which a direct correlation between their trade and their domain name is of the utmost importance.

Dublin, Ireland, Aug. 28, 2014 — Starting Dot, the registry operator for new generic top-level domains (new gTLD) .BIO, .ARCHI & .SKI, announced today that the company experienced greater than projected registration volume with .BIO, which launched on Aug. 21.

Over 4,100 .BIO domain names have been registered at the end of the first week generating over a $250,000 USD in revenue thanks to Starting Dot’s pricing and marketing initiatives. The .BIO launch ranks in the top 15 in terms of new gTLD first week retail revenue* and validates the popularity of the extension in the market place.

Starting Dot Ltd. management attributes the recent sales success to the addition of a three letter, aspirational and meaningful domain, combined with the attention of the European organic food and farming community.

The early success of .BIO is attributed to the simplicity of the extension, the broad uses that can be associated with BIO and the its ability to inspire the imagination of internet users.

“The .BIO new gTLD was universally hailed as one of the most popular in the pre-registration phase so we are pleased with but not surprised by the high conversion rate” said Godefroy Jordan, Starting Dot founder and CEO. “Our goal now is to continue to increase our marketing efforts with registrar partners in order to bring this domain to every corner of the digital world,” added Jordan.

Currently three main markets, Germany, USA and France, represents over 90% of the registrations, with two thirds of sales originating from Germany.

“In Europe ‘bio’ means organic, where Germany and France are the two largest consumer markets. But North America has clearly understood bio as the short form for biography, with already many professionals and artists using a .bio domain to showcase themselves online”, said Jordan.

There are still opportunities for domain name registrars to join the Starting Dot Registrar Partner Network and take advantage of the sales potential .BIO can bring and is encouraging registrars to contact their Starting Dot representative to start on-boarding.

* first week retail revenue is calculated by multiplying the total domain name registration (net from registry operator self allocation) by the average retail one year registration fee in USA, Germany and France.

.ARCHI, the first Internet top-level domain dedicated to bringing together the architectural community online, begins General Availability (GA) on June 16th., and the world’s professional architects will be able to register .ARCHI domain names on a first-come first-serve basis.

.ARCHI is part of the new top level domain program being rolled out by the global regulator of web addresses to introduce greater domain name choice and availability online. These new extensions, which appear to the right of the dot in a web address, are emerging every week and will enable the Internet to be utilized in ways never before possible.

For professionals and web users, .ARCHI addresses bring more clarity and better identification of the profession and its members in a overly saturated web environment.

Developed in close partnership with the International Union of Architects (UIA) .ARCHI is intended for architects and is strictly reserved for them and their organizations worldwide (agencies, member sections, schools, media, museums, etc.).

Following its successful priority registration phases where over 750 .ARCHI domain names were secured, including some of the world’s most recognized architects such as Mr. Paul Andreu, Ms. Corinne Vezzoni, Mr. John Portman, Architecture-Studio, etc., the GA launch marks the first time where interested registrants may secure highly sought after domain names through general registration.

Available for purchase from June 16, 2014, the .ARCHI extension will allow architects to be easily identified on the Internet and to differentiate themselves by showing their membership of the profession.

.ARCHI will quickly become the exclusive signature of the architects on the Internet. With the beginning of general availability, architecture practices and freelance architects will have access to a more attractive and relevant web extension to further define themselves within the architecture space“, says Godefroy Jordan, CEO of Starting Dot, .ARCHI registry operator.

.ARCHI domain names are currently available for registration in most locations where traditional domains are sold. For an updated list of retailers please visit http://www.dot-archi.com

Domain Name Registrars See Huge Market Potential in Community gTLD. Twenty Registrars have already signed up to offer .ARCHI from innovative registry operator Starting Dot.

March 18, 2014 – Dublin, New York, Paris. Starting Dot Ltd. today announced that 20 global domain name registrars have signed its Registry Registrar Agreement to offer the .ARCHI new community gTLD, scheduled to launch on 8 April 2014, and is negotiating with another twenty.

Skepticism from certain circles in the domain name industry on the attractiveness of new community gTLDs seems entirely unfounded as registrars see the market potential of Starting Dot’s community-orientated TLDs.

The first 20 registrars include:

• 101domain
• Ascio
• Crazy Domains
• Domaine.fr
• DonDominio
• Dynadot
• EnCirca
• Euro DNS
• Gandi
• Hosteur.com
• Key-Systems

Starting Dot, the registry operator for .ARCHI and .BIO, sole applicant for .SKI and in contention for .IMMO, has proved that with the right strategy, communities can be engaged and excited and feel secure knowing there is a domain name extension solely dedicated to them. Through investment in outreach, millions of architects, practices and associated businesses globally are aware that .ARCHI is the sole dedicated TLD for the architectural community. .ARCHI also has the backing of the International Union of Architects (UIA), which represents and has access to 1.3 million architects worldwide, along with globally recognized names in the architectural community, such as Paul Andreu.

The combination of effective marketing, outreach and endorsements means .ARCHI has name ID in the marketplace, something missing from many new gTLD launches and evident in lackluster registration numbers from some with easily identified communities. Registrars recognize this successful model and are hurrying to sign the .ARCHI RRA and additional TLDs because of Starting Dot’s skill in engaging communities through marketing, education and community participation.

We’ve been able to demonstrate to registrars that with the right marketing support, endorsements and community policies, they can attract highly qualified and motivated customers,” said Godefroy Jordan, CEO of Starting Dot. “We’re now seeing other new gTLD applicants try to emulate our community marketing approach, validating our strategy.”

Becoming a Starting Dot Registrar partner is designed to be simple and profitable for domain name registrars. If you are interested in becoming a Starting Dot Registrar Partner, please complete the registrar application.

Starting Dot is pleased to provide an update on the progress of its uncontested gTLD applications:

Contract have now been signed and exchanged with ICANN for the .BIO top-level domain on March 6, 2014.

.ARCHI is in the process to pass through pre-delegation test (PDT) and will continue to move smoothly until delegation into the Internet’s root zone, expected in the coming days. Starting Dot schedules to start .ARCHI Sunrise later in April.

The now uncontested .SKI top-level domain is expected to be invited to contracting with ICANN in the coming days.

The contested .IMMO TLD is still in Community Priority Evaluation, with the panel evaluation results to be announced by ICANN by March 23, 2014.

Godefroy Jordan, Founder and Executive Chairman, commented:

“Our unique portfolio of sector-related TLDs is now entering in launch phase: .ARCHI will soon be the first community new gTLD of the program to be open, which is a great milestone for our company.”

Starting Dot today announced the launch of their first marketing campaign for the .ARCHI new top-level domain.

The campaign conveys the essence of the concept and a glamorous side of .ARCHI. The new campaign builds on the registry operator’s partnership with architecture icons, Corinne Vezzoni and Paul Andreu.

“This new marketing campaign shows the approach of Starting Dot in its collaboration with celebrity architects to endorse the .ARCHI new domain concept. It’s the real side of .ARCHI, marrying the focus on providing to architects a new identity factor for their online presence with the undeniable style synonymous with first class architecture,” says Guillaume Buffet, co-founder of Starting Dot.

Leveraging Vezzoni and Andreu enviable authority and style with .ARCHI’s community approach, the new .ARCHI campaign illustrates that Internet can be an efficient tool to promote the work of licensed professional architects.

Corinne Vezzoni (born 1964) is a French based in Marseille. After graduation she worked at Atelier Perrachon – Sbriglio and founded the architectural firm Corinne Vezzoni et Associés in Marseille in 2000. She has been a member of the Académie d’Architecture in Paris since 2011. Corinne Vezzoni has major projects to her name, including the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, the Marseille tramway, and the Centre for Conservation and Resources in Marseille, part of the MuCEM.

Paul Andreu (born 1938) is a French architect based in Paris. He is best known for having planned numerous airports worldwide, notably Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Jakarta), Shanghai Pudong International Airport (China), Dubai International Airport, and Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport. Other projects include the Grande Arche at La Défense in Paris (as associate of Johann Otto von Spreckelsen) and the National Grand Theater of China in Beijing. Since 2011 Andreu teaches three months per year at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China.

“The .ARCHI is the symbol of the brotherhood between architects,” says Paul Andreu during the shooting.

The .ARCHI marketing campaign featuring iconic architects will debut in mid-February in print and digital advertising platforms, as well as through Starting Dot’s social media, public relations and consumer activations.
